Coco Chanel love for London

louis
louis 3 Min Read

While she was based in Paris, she did have a significant presence in London as well.

London has always been a hub for fashion and style, and it is likely that Chanel was inspired by the city’s vibrant culture and diverse range of influences. The city has a long history of fashion innovation, and it is likely that Chanel was influenced by the trends and styles that were popular in London at the time.

Chanel was known for her simple, elegant designs, and it is possible that she was inspired by the clean lines and understated style of British fashion. She was also known for her use of jersey fabric, which was typically used for men’s undergarments. This use of unconventional materials may have been influenced by the experimental and innovative spirit of the London fashion scene.

In addition to fashion, Chanel was also likely influenced by the art and culture of London. She was known to be a patron of the arts and had many artist friends, including Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau. It is possible that she was inspired by the creativity and innovation of these artists and their work.

One interesting story about Chanel and London involves her relationship with the British socialite and art collector, Daisy Fellowes. Fellowes was a well-known figure in London society and was known for her extravagant style and love of jewelry. She became friends with Chanel and became one of her most devoted clients, often commissioning custom pieces from the designer.

In the 1930s, Fellowes and Chanel traveled to London together to attend the coronation of King George VI. Fellowes wore a custom-made Chanel gown to the event, which was covered in diamonds and pearls and was valued at over one million dollars at the time. The gown was a sensation and helped to solidify Chanel’s reputation as a designer of high-end, luxurious clothing.

After the coronation, Fellowes and Chanel returned to Paris, where they continued to work together on a variety of fashion projects. Their friendship and collaboration had a significant impact on the fashion industry, and Chanel’s designs continue to be popular and influential today.
